The snowy owl by Anne

This animal is a Snowy Owl. It lives in the Artic. In Polar regions there aren`t any trees. That`s why owl put their nests on the ground,rocks or mounds. Sometimes they use eagle`s abandoned nests.

Snowy Owl have yellow eyes and black beaks. They are between 52 and 71cm long and they weigh between 1.6 and 3 kilos. They have thick plumage and feathers on their feet, so they are well-adapted to life in the Artic.

Adult males are white. Females are white and have brown marks. Their babies are pure white when they are borrn. When they are older, their plumage is marked. 

Snowy Owls lay between 5 and 14eggs.The babies are born abut five weeks later. Parents defend the nest and their babies. They spend summer in the Artic, but in winter they fly south,for example to Snowy Owl is the official bird of the city of Quebec  in Canada.

Snowy Owls are carnivores. They eat rodents and birds. They need o eat between seven twelve mice or other prey. Like many other birds,they swallow their prey whole.
