United States is the third largest country in the world in population, and the fourth largest in area. Alaska and Hawaii are apart from the other cites in the US. In the Eastern of USA there are rocky forests. New England centre of Boston is famous for universities such Harvard.
Washington is the capital city of the USA.
The Midwest is a farming region and has the Missouri which is part of the Mississippi.
There are grasslands known as prairies. Farther west are Rocky mountains, geysers of Yellowstone, ski resorts and Denver. The south has deserts in Arizona and business centres such as Houston and Dallas in Texas.
California is the richest state and the most popular cities are Los Angeles and San Francisco.
George Washington was the first president and a new national capital was founded and named in his honour.
In 1802 Thomas Jefferson was the president. In 1804, he sent an expedition to explore the continent from east to west.
In 1848 the discovery of gold was in California.
Like baseball and basketball, american football is a popular national sport.
The white house, in washington D.C. has been the home of US presidents. It was built in 1800 and rebuilt after the fire in a war in 1812.
In the early 1900s, jazz emerged in New Orleans and developed as a new American style of music. Today, the New Orleans Jazz Festival is world famous.
