Real Sociedad de fútbol, more commonly known as Real Sociedad, is a Spanish football club based in the city of San Sebastian, Basque Country.

Founded on the 7th September 1909, it plays its home matches  in Anoeta stadium. Real Sociedad won the liga title in 1980-81 and 1981-82.

The club has also won the king cup twice in 1909 and in 1987. It plays the basque derby against rivals Athletic Bilbao.

R.S  was at the top of the leage during 40 seasons (between 1967 and 2007).

The club has competed in UEFA and in Champions league. It participated in  the round of 16  in the year 2003-2004 and they lost against Lyon.

Football was introduced to San Sebastian in the early 1900 by students and workers returning from Britain.
